Thanks for visiting! This workbook accompanies Unnerved: The Performer's Guide to Managing Anxiety. Each performer is wholly unique, as is each performer's experience with anxiety.
I hope that this workbook allows you to explore your own experience with performance anxiety and helps you identify patterns, triggers, and the root causes of your own anxiety.
About Unnerved
Data shows that 60-95% of performers experience performance anxiety to some extent; 70% of professional musicians suffer from performance anxiety severe enough to impact their performance. While performance anxiety is normalized within performing professions, these statistics prove that it is a near universal condition resulting in less accurate and effective music-making. Performance anxiety unequivocally harms emotional, mental, and physical well-being. Many studies confirm that performance anxiety begins in adolescence and persists, for most, throughout their lives. It is markedly worse among student groups, and it acutely affects professional performers under the age of 45. Unnerved is designed particularly for those groups–students and young professional performers. Nevertheless, as anxiety afflicts many into their later years, this book is for anyone who experiences performance anxiety in any discipline, at any age.
Unnerved provides a roadmap for performers to identify the root driver of their anxiety and regulate it effectively. Using the enneagram to discern emotional tendencies, performers engage in practical strategies and questions for reflection, allowing them to understand and manage their performance anxiety, as it is fueled by shame, fear, or anger.
